Is Bet365 Legal in Canada? Province by Province
Bet365 is legal in Ontario and Alberta, where it is on the official registers. We found it on no other province's list on September 30, 2026.

Key takeaways
- 01Ontario: iGaming Ontario’s directory lists Bet365 (casino and sports betting) under the legal entity Hillside (International Sports) ENC. We checked the directory on 2026-09-30.
- 02Alberta: AGLC’s register lists Hillside (International Gaming) ENC and Hillside (International Sports) ENC as iGaming operators, with registrations expiring July 13, 2027. AiGC lists “Bet365 Casino” and “Bet365 Sportsbook” as registered sites.
- 03Everywhere else, we found no provincial register that lists Bet365. BC’s government says PlayNow.com is the province’s only legal online gambling site; Quebec, Manitoba and Saskatchewan have provincial sites run by Loto-Québec, Manitoba Liquor & Lotteries and SIGA.
We checked iGaming Ontario’s directory of regulated sites and AGLC’s gaming registrants list on September 30, 2026.
Under section 207 of the Criminal Code, it is lawful “for the government of a province … to conduct and manage a lottery scheme in that province”. Gambling is authorized province by province, so whether a site is legal depends on your province. It also depends on where you are standing when you bet, not where you live.

Ontario: listed in the iGaming Ontario directory
Ontario’s regulated online market works through iGaming Ontario (iGO). Its public directory, “What sites are regulated for play in Ontario?”, lets you filter by legal entity. Filtered to Hillside (International Sports) ENC, it shows one site, Bet365, offering Casino and Sports Betting. The directory links it to the address on.bet365.ca. We checked it on 2026-09-30.
What that means for you:
- You must be 19 or older to use any igaming product run by iGaming Ontario (iGO player FAQs).
- You can log in from outside Ontario, but you cannot place bets unless you are physically in Ontario (same FAQ).
- OLG.ca is also part of Ontario’s regulated market. iGO notes it is the one listed site that runs under the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation’s conduct and management rather than an operating agreement with iGO.
Our Ontario licensed operators tracker keeps a copy of the whole directory, with a “Is this site licensed?” lookup.
Alberta: on the AGLC register and the AiGC site list
Alberta’s regulated market opened on July 13, 2026. AiGC said 22 registered iGaming sites were approved at launch (AiGC news release). The Alberta iGaming Corporation (AiGC) runs the market and the Alberta Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis commission (AGLC) regulates it. Two official lists matter:
List 1: AGLC’s gaming registrants. On 2026-09-30 the CSV export had three Hillside entries in the iGaming stream:
| Legal entity (AGLC) | Class of registration | Registration expires |
|---|---|---|
| Hillside (International Gaming) ENC | iGaming – Operator | July 13, 2027 |
| Hillside (International Sports) ENC | iGaming – Operator | July 13, 2027 |
| Hillside (Technology) Limited | iGaming – Critical Gaming Systems Provider | July 13, 2027 |
List 2: AiGC’s registered iGaming sites. On 2026-09-30 the directory listed “Bet365 Casino” (linking to casino.ab.bet365.ca) and “Bet365 Sportsbook” (linking to ab.bet365.ca).
AiGC’s directory does not say which legal entity runs which site, so we don’t match the two Hillside operators to the two Bet365 sites. According to AiGC’s FAQs, you must be 18 or older and physically in Alberta to log in or place bets. AiGC also says a regulated site shows the AiGC logo and the Responsible Gambling Council (RGC) seal.
See our Alberta registered operators tracker and the Alberta igaming launch tracker for the full register and timeline.
Other provinces: not provincially authorized
Outside Ontario and Alberta, we found no provincial register that lists bet365. Here is what the official sources we checked say about each province’s own online gambling:
- British Columbia. The B.C. government says “gambling is legal only when it’s run by the provincial government” and that “PlayNow.com is the only legal online gambling site in B.C.” You must be 19 or older (Gambling in B.C.).
- Quebec. Loto-Québec’s corporate site lists its own online casino, poker, bingo and Mise-o-jeu+ sports betting (Loto-Québec).
- Manitoba. “PlayNow is Manitoba’s official online gaming site, operated by Manitoba Liquor & Lotteries” (PlayNow Manitoba).
- Saskatchewan. PlayNow Saskatchewan is the province’s official online gaming site, operated by the Saskatchewan Indian Gaming Authority (SIGA). Its page calls it “SIGA’s online sports & casino” (PlayNow Saskatchewan).
In the Atlantic provinces the legal online option is Atlantic Lottery’s alc.ca, and the territories have no online casino of their own; neither is a bet365 channel.
An unregulated site isn’t covered by any provincial dispute process. iGaming Ontario says it “has no legal relationship with unregulated igaming Operators” (iGO player support).
Where to complain about bet365 (including ID-verification disputes)
Players often complain about identity checks, withdrawals and account closures. In a regulated province you have a formal route:
Ontario
- File a formal complaint through bet365’s own complaint process and get a complaint number.
- Give the operator time to respond under its service standards, check your spam folder, and follow up once.
- If it is still unresolved, submit a complaint to iGaming Ontario. Have ready the site name, your player ID and the operator’s complaint reference number. iGO lists “ID verification”, “closure of your account”, payouts and voided bets among the dispute types.
- For responsible gambling, suspected illegal activity or advertising, you can go straight to the AGCO through iAGCO, entering zero in the “Complaint/Dispute Reference Number” field.
Know what iGO can and cannot do. It accepts complaints that the operator has not resolved, but it says it “does not resolve or make decisions on disputes regarding gambling-related transactions” and “cannot directly settle any bets, refund wagers or award compensation” (iGO player support).
Alberta
AiGC says that if an operator’s customer service cannot resolve your issue within 72 hours, you can submit a formal dispute through AiGC’s contact page for independent review (AiGC FAQs).
Other provinces
We found no provincial body that takes complaints about bet365 outside Ontario and Alberta, because it isn’t on any other province’s register.
What changed recently
- July 13, 2026: Alberta’s regulated market launched with 22 approved sites (AiGC). The release does not name them. Bet365 Casino and Bet365 Sportsbook were on AiGC’s registered-sites list when we checked on September 30, 2026.
- September 30, 2026: we re-checked the iGO directory, the AGLC registrants CSV and the AiGC site list for this page.
Practical next steps
- Check the register yourself before you sign up. In Ontario, use iGO’s directory. In Alberta, use AiGC’s registered sites and AGLC’s registrants list. Make sure the address you use matches the one the register links to.
- Self-exclude if you need a break. Ontario players can opt out of regulated online gambling through BetGuard (betguard.ca), which iGO links from its player-support page. In Alberta, AiGC says self-exclusion blocks you from all registered iGaming sites and land-based casinos in the province (AiGC FAQs; AiGC responsible gambling).
- Get help. It is free and confidential:
- Ontario: ConnexOntario, 1-866-531-2600, 24/7 by phone, email or chat (iGO).
- Alberta: 211 Alberta. Call 211, text INFO to 211, or chat online, 24/7 (AiGC Get Help).
- British Columbia: Gambling Support BC, 1-888-795-6111, toll-free 24/7 (Government of B.C.).
- Quebec: Jeu : aide et référence, 1 800 461-0140 (Montreal area 514 527-0140), 24/7 (aidejeu.ca).
- Manitoba: Problem Gambling Help Line, 1-800-463-1554 (PlayNow Manitoba).
- Saskatchewan: Saskatchewan Problem Gambling Help Line, 1-800-306-6789 (PlayNow Saskatchewan).
- Tax: the Canada Revenue Agency says you do not have to report “lottery winnings of any amount, unless the prize can be considered income from employment, a business or property” (CRA). Interest you earn on winnings is taxable.

Is bet365 legal in BC?
No. The B.C. government says gambling in the province is legal only when the provincial government runs it, and that PlayNow.com is the only legal online gambling site in B.C.
Can I use my Ontario bet365 account when I travel to another province?
iGaming Ontario says you can open an account or log in while outside Ontario, but you cannot place a bet unless you are physically in Ontario. Alberta’s rules are stricter: AiGC says you must be physically in Alberta to log in or place bets.
Who do I complain to if bet365 won’t verify my account or pay out?
Start with bet365’s own formal complaint process and keep the complaint number it gives you. In Ontario, if the dispute is still unresolved, you can submit a complaint to iGaming Ontario, which names ID verification, payouts and account closures as examples. iGO says it does not resolve or make decisions on disputes about gambling transactions and cannot award compensation. In Alberta, AiGC says you can ask it for an independent review if the operator has not resolved the issue within 72 hours.
