The short answer

Canada’s Criminal Code makes gambling a crime unless a province runs it or licenses it. Section 207 lets the government of a province “conduct and manage a lottery scheme in that province”, in line with provincial law.

Saskatchewan does this through PlayNow.com. When it launched on November 3, 2022, the province called it “the province’s first legal, regulated online gaming platform”. The site uses the British Columbia Lottery Corporation’s PlayNow platform, but the Saskatchewan version is operated by SIGA and regulated by SLGA. At launch the province said the site “is managed by SaskGaming”, and that net proceeds are “reinvested back into Saskatchewan” (Government of Saskatchewan, November 2022). The October 2022 restructuring moved management of online gaming to the new Lotteries and Gaming Saskatchewan (LGS) (October 2022 release). SIGA describes itself as a First Nations, non-profit organization (SIGA About Us).

Every other site is outside the provincial system. In its August 2026 release, the government said PlayNow has grown “despite heavy competition from illegal platforms”. FSIN Chief Bobby Cameron called PlayNow “Saskatchewan’s only licensed and regulated online gaming platform” (Government of Saskatchewan, August 2026).

Watch out for fake casino sites. In February 2025 the province warned about social media ads for fake online versions of Dakota Dunes Casino, Casino Regina and other land-based casinos. “None of the land-based casinos in Saskatchewan have a legitimate online version,” said Lotteries and Gaming Saskatchewan. Scammers use these ads to steal credit card and banking details (Government of Saskatchewan, February 2025).

Who regulates gambling in Saskatchewan

Several public bodies have different jobs, and people often mix them up.

Table 2Who regulates gambling in Saskatchewan
BodyRole
Saskatchewan Liquor and Gaming Authority (SLGA)The regulator. SLGA is a Treasury Board Crown corporation and “the provincial regulator of liquor, gaming and cannabis” (About SLGA). The province named SLGA as PlayNow’s regulator at launch. It also licenses charitable gaming (October 2022 release).
Lotteries and Gaming Saskatchewan (LGS)The business oversight Crown. The province announced it in October 2022 to take over management oversight of casinos, VLTs, lotteries and online gaming. LGS is now in operation: it issued the February 2025 scam warning and reported its 2025-26 results in June 2026 (June 2026 release). The province split management from regulation so that SLGA could act “as an independent regulator” (October 2022 release).
Saskatchewan Indian Gaming Authority (SIGA)The online operator. SIGA runs PlayNow.com and seven casinos, and says that, “as a non-profit organization, 100 percent of our net income goes back to our communities” (SIGA About Us).
SaskGaming, Western Canada Lottery Corporation and Sask SportThe other operators. The province lists SaskGaming, SIGA, WCLC and Sask Sport as the four commercial gaming operators (June 2026 release). SaskGaming continues to operate Casinos Regina and Moose Jaw, and lotteries continue to be operated by SaskLotteries (Sask Sport) and the Western Canada Lottery Corporation (October 2022 release).

19. At launch the province said PlayNow.com is for “Saskatchewan players aged 19 years and older” (launch release). Every PlayNow Saskatchewan page also shows a 19+ mark (PlayNow Saskatchewan).

Self-exclusion and player limits

On PlayNow (Voluntary Self-Exclusion):

  • How long. Choose 6 months, or 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5 years.
  • It can’t be cut short. It starts as soon as you finish signing up. You can make it longer, but you “can’t terminate it any earlier than the originally chosen expiry date”.
  • What happens. You can’t log in, play or win prizes. Any cash balance is paid back to you. Unused promotional funds are cancelled, and you are taken off PlayNow marketing lists. One detail to check: a cash balance under $5 is lost if you have no bank account on file, so start a withdrawal first.
  • How to do it. Go to My Account, then Self-Exclusion. You can also call PlayNow Customer Support at 1-877-706-6789 (option 3) or use Live Chat to speak with a GameSense Advisor.

Shorter breaks and limits (Tools to Manage Your Play Online): you can lock your account for anywhere from 24 hours to 3 months, set a weekly deposit limit (a lower limit applies right away), and set a daily or weekly cap on playing time.

At the casinos (SIGA Voluntary Self-Exclusion): SIGA’s casino program lasts from 6 months to 5 years. It bans you from all casinos in Saskatchewan, meaning all seven SIGA casinos plus SaskGaming’s Casino Regina and Casino Moose Jaw. You can sign up in person at any SIGA casino, or by appointment at SIGA’s Central Office, 103 Aspen Place, Saskatoon. Nobody can enrol another person. Going into a casino while self-excluded can lead to charges and a fine.

PlayNow and the casinos each describe their own program. If you want a break from both, sign up for both.

Practical next steps

  1. Check that you’re on the real site. The provincial site is playnow.com/sk, and its footer names the Saskatchewan Indian Gaming Authority. No land-based Saskatchewan casino has its own online casino.
  2. Set limits before you play. Once you’re signed in, open My Account to set a weekly deposit limit and a cap on your playing time.
  3. Need to stop? Use Self-Exclusion in your PlayNow account, ask about self-exclusion at any SIGA casino, and call 1-800-306-6789 any time.
  4. Report scam ads. If you see an ad for an “online” version of a Saskatchewan casino, don’t click it. Report it to the platform where you saw it, as the province advises.
