Which Gambling Sites Are Legal in Alberta?

A site is legal in Alberta if AiGC lists it, or if it is Play Alberta. On Sep 30, 2026 AiGC listed 34 sites. Here is every one, and how to check yours.

Key takeaways

  1. 01Check two official lists. AiGC’s “Registered iGaming Sites” names the websites. AGLC’s “Gaming Registrants” names the companies. Play Alberta, the government-run site, is the other legal option.
  2. 02Being on AGLC’s register is not enough on its own. AGLC says operators must be registered with it and have signed a commercial agreement with AiGC. 16 registered companies, including Stake Canada Ltd. and the Bet99 company, had no site on AiGC’s list.
  3. 03AiGC says a regulated site shows the AiGC logo and the Responsible Gambling Council seal, you must be 18 or older, and you must be physically in Alberta to log in or bet.

The two official lists, and why you need both

Alberta’s regulated online market opened on July 13, 2026 (AiGC). Two public bodies run it, and each publishes its own list:

AGLC says that as of July 13, all operators must be registered with AGLC and have signed a commercial agreement with AiGC (AGLC iGaming). So a company on AGLC’s list is registered by the regulator, but a website is only part of the regulated market once it appears on AiGC’s list.

AiGC also says a regulated site shows the AiGC logo and the Responsible Gambling Council (RGC) seal on its homepage (AiGC FAQs). A logo can be copied, so the list is the better test.

Three sites on AiGC’s list are not matched to a company: Bet365 Casino (casino.ab.bet365.ca), Golden Nugget Casino (www.goldennuggetcasino.com) and Vegas Club Casino (ab.playvegasclub.ca). They are registered sites. For Bet365 Casino and Golden Nugget Casino, iGaming Ontario’s directory names an Ontario operator, but Alberta has a second registrant that could be running each one, so we left them unattributed (see the method below). Vegas Club Casino matches no registrant by either test. That is why the table shows 31 sites against companies, and AiGC’s list has 34.

30 companies hold a registration expiring July 13, 2027 (Cadtree Limited also holds two that expire September 2 and September 8, 2027). Nine others have registrations expiring only between July 23 and September 24, 2027. Play Alberta’s row has no expiry date. AGLC publishes an expiry date for each registration but not the date it was granted, so expiry order is not the order in which companies were registered.

Registered, but no site listed: what that means

16 private companies are on AGLC’s register as iGaming operators but had no site matched on AiGC’s list on 2026-09-30. Two examples:

  • Stake Canada Ltd. is registered, with an expiry of September 24, 2027. No site with “Stake” in its name was on AiGC’s list.
  • 2786638 Alberta Inc. o/a Bet99 is registered, expiring July 13, 2027. No site with “Bet99” in its name was on AiGC’s list.

The others are Albertix Gaming Ltd., Blueberry (Alberta) Ltd., Ellipse Entertainment Limited, G2 Digital AB LLC, GG International Limited o/a GG Poker, GNOG CAN Ltd., Goldrush Alberta Limited, Hillside (International Gaming) ENC, Kaizen Gaming Canada Inc., PointsBet Canada Operations 1 Inc., River Cree iGaming Limited Partnership, Skill on Net Ltd., TWHG Inc. and VHL Ontario Limited.

What this means in practice: a company on AGLC’s register is not offering a regulated Alberta site until that site shows up on AiGC’s list. AGLC requires both steps, registration and a signed AiGC commercial agreement (AGLC). AiGC says operators should expect about 3–4 months to finish AGLC registration and sign the AiGC agreement (AiGC FAQs).

Two cautions:

  • Some of these companies may be behind the three sites we could not match. AGLC registers GNOG CAN Ltd. as well as Crown DK CAN Ltd., which iGaming Ontario’s directory lists as the Golden Nugget Casino operator in Ontario. AGLC also lists two Hillside companies, and AiGC lists two Bet365 sites. The official Alberta lists don’t say which runs which.
  • A brand with the same name, running on a different address (for example a “.com” site that isn’t on AiGC’s list), is not covered by the Alberta registration. Check that the exact address matches the one on AiGC’s list.

Play Alberta: the government’s own site

Play Alberta (playalberta.ca) is the government-run site, according to AiGC, and it has its own page on AGLC’s website. It is on AGLC’s register as an iGaming operator, with no expiry date shown. AGLC says all of its revenue goes “directly back into the Government of Alberta’s General Revenue Fund” and that it offers casino-style games, live dealer tables, instants, lottery and sports betting (AGLC).

It is not on AiGC’s list, which covers the private operators. AiGC says Play Alberta “will continue to operate as the province’s own government-run platform, competing alongside regulated private operators” (AiGC FAQs). AGLC’s Play Alberta page still says it “is the only regulated online gambling site in the province”. That line is out of date since July 13, 2026.

How we built the table (method)

  1. Companies. We downloaded AGLC’s Gaming Registrants CSV export from aglc.ca/gaming-registrants on 2026-09-30 and kept every row whose class of registration includes “iGaming – Operator”. That gives 42 rows and 40 distinct legal names, because Cadtree Limited holds three registrations with different expiry dates. Suppliers and platform providers are left out unless they are also registered as operators (Pala Interactive Canada, Inc. is both).
  2. Sites. We took every site on AiGC’s Registered iGaming Sites page the same day: 34 sites, with the address each one links to.
  3. Matching. AiGC doesn’t say which company runs each site. We matched a site to a company only when (a) the company’s legal name contains the brand (PureCasino.ca → Pure Casino Entertainment Limited Partnership; Tonybet → Tonybet Northpoint Limited), or (b) the same legal entity runs that brand in iGaming Ontario’s public directory of regulated sites (fetched 2026-09-30). One exception: by test (b), Golden Nugget Casino would match Crown DK CAN Ltd. and Bet365 Casino would match Hillside (International Sports) ENC. We left both unattributed because Alberta also registers GNOG CAN Ltd. and Hillside (International Gaming) ENC, either of which may run them in Alberta. Only Vegas Club Casino fails both tests.
  4. Status. “Site listed” means at least one AiGC site is matched to the company. “Registered, no site attributed” means the company is on AGLC’s register only.

The table shows register facts only. It is not a rating or a recommendation. The full dataset, with a source link on every row, is in our Alberta registered operators tracker.

What changed recently

  • July 13, 2026. Alberta’s regulated market opened with 22 approved sites (AiGC). AiGC says unregulated operators had to stop taking bets and return player balances by that date (AiGC FAQs).
  • By September 30, 2026. AiGC’s list had grown to 34 sites.

Practical next steps

  • Before you sign up, check the address. Find the site on AiGC’s registered sites list and make sure the web address you’re on matches the one AiGC links to. If a site isn’t there and isn’t Play Alberta, it isn’t part of Alberta’s regulated market.
  • Know the basic rules. You must be 18 or older and physically in Alberta to log in or bet on a regulated site. AiGC says approved operators can’t accept cryptocurrency, and must keep player funds in Canadian trust accounts separate from their own money (AiGC FAQs).
  • If something goes wrong. Complain to the operator first. AiGC says that if the operator’s customer service can’t fix it within 72 hours, you can file a formal dispute with AiGC through its contact page (AiGC FAQs). A site that isn’t registered isn’t covered.
  • Take a break with self-exclusion. AGLC’s Centralized Self-Exclusion program (selfexclusion.ca) lets you exclude yourself from all registered iGaming sites, from land-based casinos and racing entertainment centres, or from both (AGLC; AiGC describes it as “a free, voluntary program”, AiGC FAQs). Deposit, loss and time limits are in each site’s account settings (AiGC FAQs).
  • Get help. It’s free and confidential:
    • Alberta: 211 Alberta. Call 211, text INFO to 211, or chat online at ab.211.ca, 24/7, in several languages (AiGC Get Help). AiGC also lists Alberta Gamblers Anonymous, Gam-Anon (for family and friends), Money Mentors (debt) and the Hope for Wellness Helpline for Indigenous people.
    • Ontario: ConnexOntario, 1-866-531-2600, 24/7 by phone, email or chat (iGaming Ontario).
    • British Columbia: Gambling Support BC, 1-888-795-6111, toll-free, 24 hours (Government of B.C.).
    • Quebec: Jeu : aide et référence, 1 800 461-0140 (514 527-0140 in Montreal) (aidejeu.ca).

Is it legal in your province?

Questions

Which online casinos are legal in Alberta?

Two kinds. First, the sites on the Alberta iGaming Corporation’s “Registered iGaming Sites” list. Second, Play Alberta (playalberta.ca), the government-run site, which AiGC says keeps operating alongside the private operators. A site that is on neither is not part of Alberta’s regulated market.

Is Play Alberta legit?

Yes. AiGC calls Play Alberta “the province’s own government-run platform”, and it is listed on the website of AGLC, the provincial regulator, which says all its revenue goes to the Government of Alberta’s General Revenue Fund. It appears on AGLC’s register as an iGaming operator. It is not on AiGC’s list of registered sites, because that list covers the private operators, and AiGC says Play Alberta continues to operate alongside them. One AGLC page still calls it “the only regulated online gambling site in the province”, which is out of date since July 13, 2026.

Where is the official list of Alberta iGaming operators?

AGLC publishes the companies at aglc.ca/gaming-registrants (filter the class to “iGaming – Operator”, or download the CSV). AiGC publishes the websites at abigaming.ca under Players → Registered iGaming Sites. The two lists don’t link to each other, which is why our table matches them up.

Is Stake legal in Alberta?

Stake Canada Ltd. is on AGLC’s register as an iGaming operator, with a registration expiring September 24, 2027. On 2026-09-30, no Stake site was on AiGC’s list of registered sites. AGLC says an operator needs both an AGLC registration and a signed AiGC commercial agreement, so check AiGC’s list for the exact site before assuming it is regulated.

How many gambling sites are licensed in Alberta?

On 2026-09-30, AiGC’s list had 34 registered sites and AGLC’s register had 40 companies registered as iGaming operators. AiGC said 22 sites were approved when the market opened on July 13, 2026.

How old do you have to be to gamble online in Alberta?

18. AiGC says you must be 18 or older to register, deposit and play on any regulated iGaming site in Alberta, and you must be physically in Alberta to log in or place bets.
